The Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), expressed its appreciation on Tuesday for the fundamental goals outlined in the University Grants Commission's (UGC) recent notification. The document, officially titled 'University Grants Commission (Regulations for the Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions), 2026', aims to foster a more equitable environment within India's higher education institutions.
Balancing Appreciation with Concerns Over Ambiguity
In an official statement released from Lucknow, the ABVP acknowledged the positive intent behind the UGC's regulatory framework. The student organization emphasized that the core objectives align with democratic principles where every citizen enjoys equal rights, and the nation remains free from discrimination and inequality. However, the parishad simultaneously highlighted that achieving these noble goals requires regulations that are both clear and balanced in their implementation.

Expressing significant concern, the ABVP urged the UGC to take immediate cognizance of the ambiguity and widespread misconceptions currently prevailing within society, particularly among students, parents, and other stakeholders. The student body called for prompt action from the commission to prevent any potential divisive situations from arising on campuses. It is noteworthy that this regulatory matter is currently under judicial consideration in court. Therefore, the ABVP firmly believes that the UGC should clarify its official position without delay and proceed to file a comprehensive affidavit in the court to address the legal proceedings.

National General Secretary of the ABVP, Virendra Singh Solanki, underscored the imperative of ensuring harmony and equality on all educational campuses. "The ABVP has always strived for this fundamental principle. There must be social equality for every section of society within our educational institutions, and there is absolutely no place for any form of discrimination on these campuses," Solanki stated emphatically.
