The Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru (IISc Bengaluru) has announced a significant change in its undergraduate admission process for the BTech programme. Starting from the 2026 academic session, the prestigious institute will admit students to its Bachelor of Technology in Mathematics and Computing through Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) 2026 marks and the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counselling process.
IISc Bengaluru's Undergraduate Programmes
IISc Bengaluru offers two prominent undergraduate programmes that attract top talent from across the country. The institute provides a Bachelor of Science (Research) programme and the BTech in Mathematics and Computing. While the admission process for the Bachelor of Science programme remains unchanged, the BTech programme will now follow the JEE Advanced and JoSAA route for student selection.
Transition in Admission Process
Previously, the institute has been admitting students to its BTech (Mathematics and Computing) programme through JEE Advanced scores using the dedicated IISc admission portal. This marks a strategic shift toward greater integration with the national engineering admission framework, potentially streamlining the process for aspiring candidates.
About the BTech Programme
The BTech in Mathematics and Computing at IISc Bengaluru is a comprehensive four-year programme spread across eight semesters. The curriculum includes six core courses each in mathematics and computing disciplines, supplemented by courses in sciences, humanities, and various engineering fields. This balanced approach ensures students receive a well-rounded education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications.
JEE Advanced 2026 Details
For the 2026 academic year, the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) has been designated as the organizing institute for JEE Advanced. The examination authority has announced that JEE Advanced 2026 will be conducted on May 17, 2026, with the application process scheduled to commence on April 23, 2026.
Eligibility Criteria and Fee Structure
To become eligible for JEE Advanced 2026 application, candidates must secure a position among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (across all categories) in the BE/BTech paper of JEE Main 2026. Additionally, candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 2001, with appropriate relaxations available for reserved category candidates.
The registration fee structure has been clearly defined by the authorities. For candidates belonging to general, OBC-NCL, and GEN-EWS categories, the application fee is set at Rs 3,200. However, female candidates across all categories, along with SC, ST, and PwD category candidates, benefit from a reduced fee of Rs 1,600. This fee covers the cost of appearing for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 of the examination and must be paid online during the registration process.
Important Attempt Rules
Prospective candidates should note that they can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years. Furthermore, candidates must have appeared for their Class 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2025 or 2026, with physics, chemistry, and mathematics as compulsory subjects.
This integration of IISc Bengaluru's BTech admissions with the national JEE Advanced and JoSAA framework represents a significant development in India's higher education landscape, potentially making the admission process more accessible and standardized for engineering aspirants across the country.
