NSS Volunteers' Street Play 'Vetta' Captivates Thrissur Festival Crowd

A sudden street performance by National Service Scheme volunteers from Sree Kerala Varma College in Thrissur grabbed everyone's attention. The play stopped the usual festival rush in its tracks. People paused their activities to watch the unfolding drama.

Powerful Performance Near Excise Stall

The volunteers presented Vetta (The Hunt) near an excise department stall at the festival. Students, parents, and art lovers slowly gathered around the performers. They watched the actors deliver intense dialogues with dramatic movements.

The play tells the story of Abhishek, a college student from a poor family. He takes a firm stand against drugs and tries to save his friends Amal and Gauri from substance abuse. Despite his efforts, Abhishek fails to rescue them. The story ends tragically when Amal kills Abhishek.

Creating Awareness Through Drama

NSS programme officer Silija PP explained the play's purpose clearly. The performance aimed to create awareness among students about drug dangers. It urged young people to stay vigilant and socially responsible.

The play used a gripping narrative combined with real news sound bites about lives lost to substance abuse. These audio clips played in the background during key scenes. This combination made the performance particularly moving for the audience.

Festival Crowd Responds Emotionally

Hundreds of festival goers watched the play with rapt attention. Many appeared visibly moved by the powerful message. The street play successfully transformed a busy festival corner into a space for serious reflection.

The NSS volunteers demonstrated how creative expression can address critical social issues. Their performance reminded everyone that festivals can host both celebration and meaningful social dialogue.
