Ballari School Principal Faces Investigation Over Controversial National Anthem Incident

The principal of a private educational institution in Ballari district has come under intense scrutiny and official investigation following allegations that he orchestrated a deeply inappropriate event involving young students and a deceased individual. The incident, which has ignited widespread public condemnation, occurred in Sridharagadde village within Ballari taluk.

Details of the Alleged Incident

According to official complaints filed with district authorities, the controversy centers around events that transpired on January 28th. On that day, Sannakki Kamakshamma, a resident of Sridharagadde village, passed away. Shockingly, M Hanumanthappa, who serves as the headmaster of Sri Guru Sangana Basaveshwara English Medium Primary School, allegedly took students from his institution to the location where Kamakshamma's body was placed.

Witnesses and complainants state that Hanumanthappa arranged the children in a formal line directly facing the deceased woman's remains and instructed them to sing the Indian national anthem. This act, described by villagers as profoundly disrespectful and psychologically damaging to the young students, was captured on video by concerned community members.

Official Complaints and Investigations

Outraged villagers who deemed the principal's actions completely inappropriate submitted a formal complaint along with video evidence to multiple authorities on February 16th. The complaint was addressed to the District Commissioner (DC), the Superintendent of Police (SP), and the school education department, demanding immediate disciplinary action against Hanumanthappa.

Ballari District Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) B Umadevi confirmed that education officials have been deployed to investigate the matter thoroughly. "The Ballari Block Education Officer has deputed officials to visit the school and obtain a detailed report. Once this report is submitted to me, we will determine appropriate further action," Umadevi stated.

Principal's Admission and Public Response

In a significant development, Principal Hanumanthappa has admitted that the controversial incident did occur, though he characterized it as an error in judgment. "I acknowledge this was a mistake and am prepared to offer my sincere apologies. Education department officials have already visited our school and issued a formal warning. We are committed to ensuring such an incident never happens again," the headmaster stated.

The episode has generated substantial public outrage across Ballari district and beyond, with many citizens and child rights advocates calling for stringent disciplinary measures against the principal. Critics argue that exposing children to such situations constitutes emotional trauma and violates basic educational ethics.

The investigation continues as education authorities determine whether additional penalties beyond the initial warning are warranted for what many consider a serious breach of professional conduct and child welfare standards.
