CBSE Schools to Implement Inter-Generational Activities with Grandparents

In a significant move to bridge generational gaps and instill respect for senior citizens, schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) are set to launch structured activities involving students and their grandparents. This initiative follows an advisory from the National Council for Senior Citizens and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, aiming to foster emotional bonds and mutual understanding between young learners and the elderly.

Structured Activities and Calendar Implementation

According to educational experts, CBSE has directed its affiliated schools to organize a series of structured activities where students can participate alongside their grandparents on campus. An activity calendar has been formally shared with schools, instructing them to integrate these programs from the upcoming academic session. The calendar includes a diverse range of engagements designed to encourage active participation and collaboration.

Principal of Cambrian Public School, Paramjit Kaur, emphasized the initiative's goals: "Activities such as cooking, art, and sports have been meticulously planned under this calendar. These will be implemented starting from the new session with the active involvement of grandparents. Our primary objective is to foster emotional bonding, mutual understanding, respect, and moral values between students and senior citizens."

Key Occasions and Planned Events

Schools are planning to invite grandparents on key national and commemorative occasions, including Independence Day, Children’s Day, and the International Day of Older Persons. The CBSE asserts that such initiatives will help reduce loneliness and social isolation among senior citizens while simultaneously strengthening values of empathy and respect among students.

To achieve these objectives, schools are organizing a variety of interactive programs. These include walkathons, cooking sessions, art workshops, sports events, and cultural activities, all designed to enable grandparents and grandchildren to participate together in meaningful ways.

School-Specific Initiatives and Future Plans

Principal of JVM Shyamali, Samarjeet Jana, highlighted ongoing efforts: "Our school already celebrates Grandparents’ Day annually and encourages students to bring their grandparents during parent-teacher meetings. Building on this foundation, we will introduce more activities from the new academic session to further strengthen intergenerational bonding."

The CBSE's directive underscores a broader commitment to holistic education that extends beyond academic learning. By integrating grandparents into school activities, the board aims to create a supportive environment where students learn valuable life lessons from the experiences and wisdom of senior citizens.

This initiative is expected to have a positive impact on both students and grandparents, promoting social cohesion and reinforcing the importance of family and community ties in today's fast-paced world.
