Tragic Death of Deaf-Mute Student at Buxar Residential School Sparks Investigation
A heartbreaking incident has shaken the educational community in Bihar's Buxar district as a 13-year-old deaf and mute student died under mysterious circumstances at the Kasturba Gandhi Residential School in Banarpur village. The tragic event occurred on Thursday morning, prompting immediate investigations by both the education department and local police authorities.
Details of the Tragic Incident
The deceased has been identified as Mohini Kumari, a Class VII student who had been studying at the residential school for approximately one year. According to initial reports, the young girl's health took a sudden turn for the worse in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Kiran Devi, a female night guard at the institution, provided crucial details about the events leading up to the tragedy. "Paneer curry was served to all students for dinner on Wednesday night," she stated. "Mohini mentioned that the food was somewhat spicy, so she later consumed jaggery with roti before retiring to bed as per her usual routine."
Medical Emergency and Failed Rescue Attempt
The situation escalated dramatically around 5 AM on Thursday when Mohini began vomiting uncontrollably. School staff initially administered warm water mixed with salt, which provided temporary relief, but the vomiting resumed shortly afterward.
"The warden and other school personnel immediately arranged transportation to take the student to a medical facility," explained Kiran Devi. "Unfortunately, traffic congestion at a railway crossing created significant delays. In a desperate attempt to save precious time, Mohini was removed from the vehicle and carried on foot to the Chausa Community Health Centre."
Tragically, upon arrival at the health centre, doctors examined the young student and declared her deceased. The medical team's pronouncement marked the devastating conclusion to what had become a frantic race against time.
Multiple Investigations Launched
Following notification of the incident, police officials, the Chausa block education officer (BEO), and the circle officer (CO) promptly arrived at the health centre. Authorities have initiated comprehensive investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mohini's untimely death.
Additional SHO of Mufassil police station Chandan Kumar confirmed that statements from all concerned individuals have been recorded. "The body has been sent for postmortem examination," he stated. "The precise cause of death will only be determined after we receive the official report. Following that, appropriate legal proceedings will be initiated based on the findings."
Investigators are currently:
- Questioning teachers, wardens, and other school staff members
- Examining CCTV footage from the school premises
- Collecting relevant documents and evidence
- Coordinating with medical authorities for autopsy results
Official Statements and Preliminary Findings
Chausa BEO Rishikesh Kumar shared preliminary observations regarding the case. "Our initial assessment indicates that the student's health deteriorated suddenly during the morning hours," he explained. "She experienced two episodes of vomiting and passed away while being transported to the hospital. We are conducting a thorough investigation into all aspects of this tragic incident and systematically gathering necessary documentation."
Athar Parvez, director of the Kasturba Gandhi Residential School, confirmed that the administration was notified by the warden about the student's deteriorating condition. "By the time we reached the hospital, medical professionals had already declared her deceased," he stated, emphasizing that the school is fully cooperating with investigative authorities.
Family Background and Grief
Mohini Kumari was the beloved daughter of Shiv Shankar Pandey, a resident of Churamanpur village who works as a laborer outside the village to support his family. The young student was the youngest among two sisters and one brother, making her loss particularly devastating for the close-knit family.
Her elder brother, Shivam Pandey, expressed the family's profound grief. "Mohini had been enrolled at the school for about a year and was actively pursuing her Class VII studies," he shared. "We received notification in the morning that her condition had become serious, but she tragically passed away before reaching the hospital. Our family is struggling to comprehend this sudden loss."
The tragic death of this young deaf-mute student has raised serious questions about student safety protocols, emergency response mechanisms at residential schools, and the overall welfare of specially-abled children in educational institutions. As investigations continue, the community awaits answers while mourning the loss of a promising young life cut short under mysterious circumstances.
