MP Board Class 5, 8 Exams 2026: Board Pattern Introduced

MP Board Introduces Board Pattern for Class 5 and 8 Exams in 2026

The Madhya Pradesh government has announced a significant change in the examination system for primary and middle school students. In a move aligned with national educational reforms, the state will conduct Class 5 and Class 8 examinations for the 2025–26 academic session on a board pattern. This decision marks a departure from the traditional school-based assessments, aiming to standardize evaluation across the state.

Examination Schedule and Scale

According to an official notice issued by the Rajya Shiksha Kendra, the examinations are scheduled to commence on February 20, 2026, and will conclude on February 28, 2026. The tests will be administered across a vast network of 12,920 examination centers throughout Madhya Pradesh. This extensive setup is designed to accommodate the large number of students expected to participate.

Approximately 25 lakh students from various educational institutions are set to appear for these exams. This includes pupils from:

  • Government schools
  • Private institutions
  • Madrasas

The board-pattern examinations will be mandatory for all students enrolled in government, non-government, and madrasa schools, ensuring uniformity in the assessment process.

Student Participation and Infrastructure

Rajya Shiksha Kendra Director Harjinder Singh provided detailed insights into the student demographics. He stated that around 24.9 lakh students from 1,10,615 schools will participate in the 2026 exams. The breakdown of schools is as follows:

  1. 86,109 government schools
  2. 23,980 private schools
  3. 525 madrasas

To facilitate the smooth conduct of the examinations, necessary facilities have been arranged at all centers based on student numbers. This includes logistical support and infrastructure to handle the large-scale event efficiently.

Examination Content and Syllabus

The notice clarified that separate question papers have been prepared for language subjects as per the NCERT syllabus. This applies specifically to 20,736 students from 522 private schools. For other subjects, the question papers will be based on state-prescribed textbooks. This dual approach ensures that the curriculum requirements of different school types are met while maintaining the integrity of the board pattern.

Digital Transformation with Online Portal

In a bid to modernize and streamline the examination process, the School Education Department has developed a dedicated online portal. This portal will serve multiple critical functions, including:

  • Student verification
  • Allocation of examination centers
  • Mapping of center heads
  • Distribution of materials
  • Issuance of roll numbers and admit cards
  • Attendance recording
  • Evaluation and generation of marksheets

Officials emphasized that every eligible student will be permitted to appear for the MP Board examination. In cases where students could not complete registration before the exam, center heads have been instructed to allow their participation, with technical details to be updated on the portal post-examination.

Broader Examination Context

Meanwhile, the MP Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) will also conduct the 2026 exams for Class 10 and 12 in February 2026. According to earlier announcements:

  • The Class 10 exams are scheduled from February 11 to March 2, 2026.
  • The Class 12 exams are set to begin on February 7, 2026, as per the revised timetable.

This coordinated schedule underscores the state's commitment to a structured and efficient examination system across all grade levels. The introduction of board patterns for younger classes is seen as a step towards enhancing academic rigor and accountability in Madhya Pradesh's education sector.
