Daltonganj: Two girl students of a government upgraded middle school in Latehar district sustained injuries on Wednesday when a portion of the plaster from the ceiling of a verandah fell on them. The incident occurred as the students were getting ready for their mid-day meal.
Injuries and Medical Response
The injured girls were taken to the community health centre at Barwadeeh. Medical officer in-charge Dr Mantu Kumar said one girl suffered an injury on her leg which had to be stitched. The wound was cleaned, stitched, and she was administered a tetanus toxoid injection and antibiotics before being discharged. The other girl sustained minor bruises on her head. She showed no dizziness, loss of consciousness, or headache and was discharged after treatment.
Police and School Response
The mishap took place under the Barwadeeh police station limits. Officer in-charge Anurag Kumar confirmed that both injuries were not serious. Sources blamed the peeling plaster on rainwater stagnation on school roofs lacking proper drainage systems. The school principal could not be contacted for comments.
