PUC Second Year Annual Examinations Commence Peacefully in Dharwad District

The first day of the Pre-University Course (PUC) second year annual examinations proceeded smoothly across Dharwad district in Karnataka. Officials reported that the Kannada and Arabic language examinations were conducted without incident at approximately 43 designated centers throughout the region.

Strong Student Turnout and Attendance Figures

Out of the total 17,892 registered students, an impressive 17,534 candidates attended the examinations, resulting in a high attendance rate. Only 358 students remained absent on the inaugural day of the crucial academic assessments.

The examinations saw participation from students enrolled across 176 different colleges within the district. The examination centers were strategically distributed as follows:

  • Dharwad: 16 centers
  • Hubballi: 18 centers
  • Alnavar: 1 center
  • Kalaghatagi: 2 centers
  • Kundgol: 3 centers
  • Navalgund: 2 centers
  • Annigeri: 1 center

Comprehensive Security and Surveillance Measures

Authorities implemented rigorous security protocols to ensure the integrity of the examination process. All centers operated under continuous CCTV surveillance, with a sophisticated webcasting system monitored centrally at the zilla panchayat office.

Tejswini Narayankar, Deputy Director of the Department of Pre-University Education, confirmed that no incidents of malpractice were reported from any examination center in the region. To maintain examination sanctity, authorities established a 200-meter restricted radius around each center.

Within these restricted zones, various commercial establishments including xerox centers, cyber cafes, and computer centers were temporarily closed during examination hours to prevent potential misconduct.

Vigilance Teams and Anti-Cheating Measures

The examination administration deployed multiple layers of supervision to ensure fairness and prevent cheating:

  1. Sitting squads stationed at each examination center
  2. District-level vigilance teams conducting random inspections
  3. Taluk-level vigilance teams providing additional oversight

These coordinated efforts created a comprehensive monitoring system designed to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity throughout the examination process.

Tragic Incident in Belagavi District

In a separate but related development, a tragic incident occurred in Belagavi district where a 17-year-old PUC student passed away shortly before her examinations. Bhumika Malangi, a resident of Bambalwad village in Chikodi taluk, suffered a fatal heart attack while preparing to leave for her II PUC examination on Saturday.

According to family sources, when Bhumika showed signs of distress, her parents immediately rushed her to a local hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to the cardiac event during transit. The Chikodi police station has registered the incident, which has cast a shadow over the otherwise smoothly conducted examination proceedings in the neighboring district.

The education department continues to monitor the examination process across Karnataka, with subsequent examination days scheduled to follow similar security protocols and administrative procedures.
