Delnaaz Irani Opens Up About Divorce and Choosing Peace Over Alimony
Popular actress Delnaaz Irani has recently shared intimate details about the dissolution of her 14-year marriage to ex-husband Rajeev Paul. In a candid interview, she revealed her decision to forgo alimony, emphasizing that she valued personal peace above engaging in a protracted legal battle.

Delnaaz Irani and Rajeev Paul tied the knot in 2010, but their relationship had reportedly ended much earlier, with the divorce finalized in 2012. Despite the public announcement in newspapers during 2010, the actress disclosed that the emotional turmoil began long before that. She described how discussions about their failing marriage occurred, but issues were often taken for granted, leading to a gradual breakdown.
"Many discussions happened between us as a couple about what’s not working," Delnaaz said. "But in a relationship, people take each other for granted, and probably that happened with me. My partner kept taking me for granted, probably he did not realise that the matter was going to turn serious."

Coming from a middle-class Parsi family, Delnaaz highlighted that divorce was an unfamiliar concept in her upbringing. Her parents and grandparents had long-lasting marriages, which influenced her perspective. "There was nothing like divorce in my dictionary. From where I come, a middle-class, Parsi family, my parents were together for so many years, even my nana-nani. We were never exposed to that concept, despite being open-minded and liberal. That does not mean that we would take divorce lightly," she explained.
The emotional struggle was compounded by personal tragedies. Delnaaz kept the news of her troubled marriage hidden from her parents, and during this difficult phase, her father suffered a heart attack in 2010 and passed away in 2011, adding to her distress.
Choosing Peace Over Financial Gain
When it came to the divorce proceedings, Delnaaz made a conscious decision not to pursue alimony. She described the process as messy, with one party wanting the divorce while the other resisted. "I never got anything. The divorce was messy because one person wanted it and the other did not. I chose my peace over everything. You have to pick up the broken pieces and live life again," she stated, underscoring her priority for emotional well-being over financial compensation.

Post-divorce, Delnaaz Irani and Rajeev Paul both participated in the reality show Bigg Boss 6, showcasing their lives in the public eye. Today, Delnaaz has turned a new chapter in her life. She is now in a live-in relationship with her fiancé, DJ Percy, and has expressed reluctance towards marriage again due to personal superstitions, indicating a focus on happiness and stability in her current partnership.
