The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a cloudy sky with thunderstorms in Delhi on Friday, with rainfall expected to continue until July 1. The forecast brings relief from the recent heat, as the city has been experiencing above-normal temperatures.
Detailed Forecast for Delhi
According to the IMD, Delhi will witness a generally cloudy sky on Friday, with the possibility of light to moderate thunderstorms and rainfall. The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be around 27 degrees Celsius. The relative humidity is expected to remain high, ranging between 60% and 80%.
The IMD has also issued a yellow alert for Delhi, advising residents to be cautious of lightning and gusty winds during thunderstorms. The alert is valid for the next 24 hours.
Rainfall to Continue Till July 1
The weather department has indicated that the rainy spell is likely to persist in Delhi until July 1. This prolonged rainfall is attributed to the active monsoon conditions over northwest India. The IMD stated, "The monsoon trough is expected to remain active, leading to widespread rainfall in the region."
From June 26 to July 1, Delhi is likely to experience generally cloudy skies with intermittent rain and thunderstorms. The maximum temperature during this period is expected to range between 33 and 36 degrees Celsius, providing significant relief from the summer heat.
Impact on Daily Life
The continuous rainfall may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas of Delhi, causing traffic disruptions. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid waterlogged routes. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued advisories to motorists to drive carefully and follow safety guidelines.
Farmers in the region have welcomed the forecast, as the rains are crucial for the sowing of kharif crops. The Agriculture Department has advised farmers to take advantage of the wet conditions for transplanting paddy and other crops.
Previous Weather Conditions
Delhi had been reeling under a heatwave earlier this month, with temperatures touching 44 degrees Celsius. The arrival of the monsoon brought much-needed relief, with the city recording 112.2 mm of rainfall in June so far, which is 45% above the normal for the month.
The IMD's forecast aligns with the overall monsoon progress in the country. The southwest monsoon has covered the entire country ahead of schedule, bringing widespread rainfall to many parts.
