In a recent development surrounding the blockbuster espionage film 'Dhurandhar', government officials have clarified that the minor edits made to the movie, including the muting of specific dialogues, were initiated by the filmmakers themselves and not ordered by the authorities. This statement comes after reports suggested the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had directed the changes.
Government Clarifies Stance on Film Edits
According to officials cited by PTI, no directive was issued by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry regarding alterations to Aditya Dhar's 'Dhurandhar'. The officials explained that the production team voluntarily approached the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with proposed changes. These edits involved muting a dialogue containing the words 'Baloch' and 'intelligence', which were deemed potentially offensive to certain communities.
The modifications were processed under Rule 31 of the Cinematograph Act. This rule permits changes to an already certified film, provided the core meaning of the sequence remains unaltered. The officials' clarification aims to settle the narrative, emphasizing the autonomy of the filmmakers in this decision.
Dhurandhar's Phenomenal Success and Context
Meanwhile, 'Dhurandhar', starring Ranveer Singh, continues its spectacular box office run. The film, which hit theaters on December 5, 2025, has become a massive commercial success. In the domestic market, it has raked in an impressive Rs 748 crore. Its global collections are even more staggering, reportedly crossing Rs 1160 crore worldwide.
The film's success has been recognized officially in Ladakh, where it was declared tax-free. The office of Lt. Gov. Kavinder Gupta praised the movie for showcasing Ladakh's landscapes, supporting the Union Territory's goal to become a prime destination for film production and tourism.
Cast, Plot, and Upcoming Sequel
'Dhurandhar' is an espionage thriller set in Pakistan's Lyari town. It follows an Indian spy, portrayed by Ranveer Singh, who goes undercover to infiltrate a network of criminals and arms dealers.
