The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an investigation into an incident involving an Air India aircraft and an IndiGo plane at Ahmedabad airport. The incident occurred when an Air India flight from Mumbai took a wrong turn while taxiing towards the parking bay after landing.
Details of the Incident
According to DGCA officials, the Air India plane, after landing from Mumbai, deviated from its assigned taxi path and entered a wrong direction, leading to a potential conflict with an IndiGo aircraft that was preparing for departure. The air traffic control (ATC) immediately intervened to avert any collision, and both aircraft were safely guided to their respective positions.
Investigation Underway
The DGCA has ordered a thorough probe into the matter, stating that such incidents are taken seriously to ensure aviation safety. A senior DGCA official said, "We are examining the sequence of events, including communication between the pilot and ATC, to determine the cause of the deviation." The investigation will also review the training and protocols followed by the crew.
Air India and IndiGo Response
Air India confirmed the incident and stated that it is cooperating with the DGCA investigation. An Air India spokesperson said, "Safety is our top priority, and we are fully assisting the authorities in their inquiry." IndiGo also acknowledged the incident and expressed relief that no harm occurred, emphasizing its commitment to safety standards.
Impact on Operations
No injuries or damage were reported, and airport operations continued without major disruption. However, the incident has raised concerns about runway safety at busy airports. The DGCA is expected to release a report with recommendations to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
