Kapur Family Legal Battle Intensifies Over RK Family Trust
A fierce legal conflict has broken out within the prominent Kapur family following the death of businessman Sunjay Kapur. The dispute pits his mother, Rani Kapur, against his daughter-in-law, Priya Sachdev, centering on control of the RK Family Trust. In a recent interview, Rani Kapur spoke out about the feud, making serious allegations and expressing her determination to pursue the case relentlessly.
Rani Kapur's Allegations and Vow to Fight
Reacting to her removal from the trust, Rani Kapur told NDTV, "I think it's very wrong of her. She entered my family seven years ago... If my husband was alive, he wouldn't have allowed this." She emphasized the trust's origins, stating, "The RK Family Trust was formed by my husband, and it will stay like that always. I don't know how she has come in and now wants to take over my house and everything. I'm not going to allow it. I will fight till I die."
Claims of Coerced Signatures After Son's Death
Rani Kapur leveled grave accusations, alleging that she was forced to sign documents shortly after her son's passing. "Three days after my son's funeral, we had just come from London. She took me to the office. I was in no condition to sign or read anything. She made me sign papers," she recounted. She described the emotional turmoil, adding, "When I came out, my daughters asked me what I had signed. I said I don't know—I was crying." She declared these documents invalid, saying, "I should sue her for that... I signed a whole lot of papers without reading them. Not that I can't read—but I was not in the condition to. Whatever I've signed is null and void."
Dispute Over Family Home and Access
Rani Kapur also addressed issues with her Delhi residence, which she claims is now being contested. "We built that house years ago when we moved from Bombay to Delhi because my husband was starting a company there," she explained. She expressed frustration, stating, "Now she thinks she owns the house also—for what, I don't know," while denying any attempts at contact from the other side. "Never—I'm telling you right now, never."
Family Ties Amid the Conflict
Despite the ongoing feud, Rani Kapur mentioned maintaining relationships with other family members, including former daughter-in-law Karisma Kapoor. "Karisma is very much in touch with me. They come and have lunch... we go out. I meet them regularly," she said, adding, "I've always been very fond of her and the kids." She shared her emotional pain over being separated from one grandchild, noting, "I miss that little one... I haven't been home since my son passed away. I just can't enter that house again."
Legal Proceedings and Future Outlook
When questioned about resolving the matter, Rani Kapur remained cautious. "Once I get it, I'll decide... you know how the courts in India are—it's a long legal fight. I don't want to say anything right now," she remarked. The legal dispute over the RK Family Trust continues in court, with both parties challenging each other's authority. This family conflict has escalated into a high-stakes battle over legacy and control, involving an estate valued at approximately Rs 30,000 crore.
