Rani Kapur Speaks on Family Trust Dispute After Son's Death

Rani Kapur Breaks Silence on Heated Inheritance Battle Following Son's Passing

In a deeply personal revelation, Rani Kapur has publicly addressed the ongoing legal dispute over her late son Sunjay Kapur's substantial Rs 30,000 crore inheritance. The conflict, which has been unfolding since Sunjay Kapur's death in June last year, pits Rani against her widowed daughter-in-law, Priya Sachdev, in a battle that has now spilled into both emotional and legal arenas.

Emotional Toll and Family Dynamics Revealed

During a recent interview, Rani Kapur described the months following her son's passing as traumatic and emotionally exhausting. She expressed that she is still grieving the loss of her son while simultaneously navigating this complex family dispute. "It's very hurtful for me because my husband made this trust and gave everything to me," Rani stated in her conversation with ANI.

Rani shared significant background about her family's journey, revealing that she had relocated from Mumbai to Delhi when the family business was established there. She emphasized her active role in building both their family home and the business empire. "We moved from Bombay to Delhi, we built the house. That house I have built sitting under a tree," she recounted, highlighting her personal investment in the family's foundations.

The Turning Point in Family Relations

According to Rani Kapur, family dynamics remained stable until her son Sunjay became involved with Priya Kapur. She indicated that circumstances began to change significantly after this relationship developed. Rani alleged that soon after her son's death, Priya began asserting control over the business operations and family assets.

"This girl tried to take over everything my husband built all his life," Rani expressed with evident distress. She maintained that the company represents her husband's lifelong efforts and said she cannot accept claims from someone who became part of her son's life only in recent years.

Current Legal Standing and Trust Dispute

From a legal perspective, the situation centers on the RK Family Trust. Rani Kapur's counsel, Senior Advocate Vaibhav Gaggar, explained that his client has challenged the trust in court, arguing that it was created without her knowledge or consent. However, he clarified that there is currently no court order restraining the trust from functioning.

Gaggar detailed Rani's legal position, noting that as the settlor, she possesses authority under the trust deed to remove a trustee without providing reasons, particularly to protect the estate. He emphasized that any decisions regarding trustees require her approval, and without her signature, such actions lack validity.

Recent Developments and Personal Fears

In the latest development, Rani Kapur has been removed from the RK family trust by Priya. In response, Rani has issued a fresh notice directing Priya Kapur to cease acting as a trustee, asserting that her removal has already taken effect after the notice period. She has dismissed attempts to remove her from the trust as legally untenable.

The emotional impact extends to Rani's personal life as well. She revealed that she has not returned to their Delhi home since her son's death. "I've been away from Delhi since my son died. I've not gone back. I'm scared now. What is she going to do to me?" she confessed, expressing genuine fear about potential future actions.

Prospects for Resolution Appear Dim

When questioned about the possibility of a settlement, Rani indicated that no discussions have taken place so far and suggested that a resolution does not seem likely anytime soon. She noted that no one from the other side has reached out to her, further complicating any potential reconciliation.

"I don't want her near that place," Rani stated firmly regarding Priya's involvement with family assets. She emphasized her belief that the wealth represents her husband's work alone, stating, "It's all my husband's work. Nobody else's. My son took over because he's the son. That's it."

The inheritance dispute continues to unfold as both legal proceedings and personal emotions remain at the forefront of this high-profile family conflict.
