In a stringent verdict, a 44-year-old man was sentenced to 24 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) by the Idukki POCSO fast track court for the sexual assault of a five-year-old girl in 2024. The judgment was delivered by Judge Noble D S, who also imposed a fine of Rs 2.20 lakh on the convict, identified as Rajesh, a resident of Pasuppara in Vagamon.
Details of the Incident
According to the prosecution, the crime took place when the child's mother was away at work. Since the child was unwell, she was left under the care of the accused's daughter. Taking advantage of the situation, Rajesh allegedly returned home while his daughter was asleep and sexually assaulted the minor. The incident came to light after the child informed her parents, leading to a police complaint and subsequent legal proceedings.
Court's Orders and Recommendations
The court ordered that if the fine is not paid, the convict will have to serve an additional 10 months of imprisonment. It further directed that the fine amount, if remitted, should be given to the victim as compensation. Additionally, the court recommended that the district legal services authority provide adequate compensation to the child to support her recovery and well-being.
