Tamil filmmaker Ramesh Subramanyam, best known for directing the 2016 film ‘Vil Ambu’, passed away today due to health-related complications. He was 49 years old. His unexpected death has sent shockwaves through the Tamil film industry.
According to a report by News 18, Subramanyam had been battling bone cancer and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai for the past few months. Despite medical efforts, he could not recover. His family announced that the final rites will take place tomorrow morning at his hometown, Suganapuram, in Coimbatore district.

Ramesh Subramanyam began his cinema career as an assistant director under filmmaker Suseenthiran. He later made his directorial debut with ‘Vil Ambu’, featuring Harish Kalyan, Sri, and Yogi Babu in pivotal roles. The film, produced by Suseenthiran, gained acclaim for its realistic storytelling and strong performances. Following ‘Vil Ambu’, Ramesh directed another film titled ‘The Killer Man’, starring Vikranth and Yogi Babu. Although he worked on only a few projects, he earned respect among industry peers for his dedication and passion for filmmaking.
