Mangaluru NGO Defies LPG Crisis with Extensive Ramzan Outreach

In the coastal city of Mangaluru, social worker Saif Sultan and his Hope Foundation have demonstrated remarkable resilience by continuing their annual Ramzan outreach program despite the ongoing LPG crisis affecting the region. The initiative has provided crucial support to diverse communities, transcending religious boundaries to serve those in need during the holy month.

Restaurant Partners Sustain Meal Distribution Amid Fuel Constraints

Despite significant fuel shortages that have impacted many businesses, five local restaurants have maintained their commitment to the foundation's food distribution efforts. These establishments—Cochin Village, Sabka Dine, Cool Elementz, Sattva, and Food Plaza—collectively prepare approximately 120 meal packets daily. Additionally, a local caterer, an elderly man receiving financial support from the foundation, contributes another 50 to 60 packets, creating a sustainable partnership that benefits both the community and small businesses.

Comprehensive Aid Reaches Multiple Vulnerable Groups

The foundation's work extends far beyond simple meal distribution. For the past twenty days of Ramzan, volunteers have worked nearly round-the-clock to serve various populations:

  • Student Support: Approximately 200 students from Lakshadweep and Kerala staying in PG accommodations in Jeppu and Marnamikatta receive iftar packets each evening containing samosas, juice, fruit, and other items to break their fast.
  • Hospital Assistance: Between 11 PM and 3 AM, the team distributes around 190 packets of hot food to hospital bystanders, many of whom have traveled to Mangaluru from distant locations for medical treatment. These meals include nutritious options like parathas, boiled rice, ghee rice, and biryani.
  • Widow and Orphan Support: The foundation has supplied clothing to 450 widows and orphans while providing food assistance to five orphanages representing Christian, Hindu, and Muslim communities.

Expanding Impact Beyond Immediate Food Needs

Hope Foundation's outreach encompasses multiple dimensions of community support. The organization provides monthly ration support worth Rs 2,000 each to approximately 850 families across India. Under their water project, they have initiated the digging of a well at Neermarga, which is expected to benefit around 45 families upon completion. Looking ahead to Eid celebrations, the team plans to distribute 500 'boxes of happiness' to those in need, continuing their tradition of seasonal generosity.

Saif Sultan, a management trainer by profession who leads the foundation, emphasized the collaborative nature of their work. "Even amid the ongoing fuel shortage, our restaurant partners have assured continued support for the Ramzan food service," he stated. The foundation has distributed nearly 8,500 dinner packets during Ramzan so far, demonstrating how community partnerships can overcome logistical challenges to serve vulnerable populations effectively.
