Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Saturday emphasized the need to promote organic ginger cultivation and its processing, stating that his government has been steadily progressing in that direction.
Ginger Festival Speech
Speaking at ‘Sawhthing Kut’, a ginger festival organized by the local community in Champhai, the Chief Minister highlighted the state government's efforts to boost the ginger sector. He announced that the government had secured approval from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) for the ‘Mizoram Ginger USP – Sustainable Cultivation & Value Chain Development Project’.
Project Details
The project is worth approximately Rs 190 crore. Out of this, Rs 30.13 crore has already been sanctioned for setting up processing units. This initiative aims to enhance the value chain of ginger cultivation in Mizoram, promoting organic practices and improving the livelihoods of farmers.
The Chief Minister's remarks underscore the state's commitment to sustainable agriculture and economic development through organic farming. The project is expected to create new opportunities for processing and marketing of Mizoram's ginger, which is known for its unique quality.
