Soil Testing Campaign Promotes Scientific Farming in Kanpur

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dilip Nagar, operating under Chandrashekhar Azad Krishi Evam Praudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya Kanpur, organized a soil testing awareness campaign in Ramgarh village, Vikas Khand Maitha. The initiative aimed to promote scientific farming among local farmers through both on-campus and off-campus training programs.

Importance of Soil Testing

Agricultural scientist Dr. Khalil Khan emphasized that the imbalanced use of fertilizers adversely affects soil fertility and can lead to reduced crop production in the long term. He advised farmers to apply fertilizers only after conducting soil tests to ensure optimal nutrient management.

Training on Nutrient Management

During the training sessions, farmers are being educated on the balanced application of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potash (NPK). Additionally, they are learning about the use of organic alternatives such as cow dung manure, vermicompost, green manure, and bio-fertilizers. The goal is to reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers and achieve agricultural sustainability.
