Madurai: Aravind Eye Hospital organized a human chain awareness rally on Saturday to mark Eye Cancer Awareness Week. The rally, which started from Anna Bus Stand and concluded at the hospital premises, saw the participation of around 200 nurses and eye cancer survivors.
Event Highlights
The program was conducted under the hospital's Ring of Hope project, which has been providing free treatment to eye cancer patients since 2004. The initiative has benefited approximately 16,600 individuals to date. The event featured awareness sessions, cultural performances, and interactive sessions where cancer survivors shared their personal experiences.
Distinguished Guests
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vanitha attended the event as the chief guest. Senior doctor Dr. Usha Kim presided over the program, while Dr. R. D. Ravindran, Chairman of Aravind Eye Hospital, participated as a special guest.
The rally aimed to raise public awareness about eye cancer, its symptoms, and the importance of early detection. Participants carried placards with messages emphasizing regular eye check-ups and timely treatment. The Ring of Hope project continues to offer comprehensive care, including diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, free of cost to economically disadvantaged patients.
