Madurai: In a disturbing incident, four minors have been booked and arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for the alleged sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in Thirumangalam. The arrests were made on Sunday following a complaint lodged by the victim's parents at the Thirumangalam all-women police station on Saturday.

Incident Details

According to police sources, the victim, who is reportedly suffering from 20% mental illness, is a resident of Thirumangalam. She was in a relationship with a 16-year-old boy. A few weeks ago, the boy and three of his friends took her to an exhibition that was being held as part of a temple festival. Subsequently, the group led the girl to a nearby secluded area, where she was subjected to penetrative sexual assault.

Legal Action Taken

The survivor informed her parents about the assault, prompting them to file a complaint. The police registered a case under relevant sections of the Pocso Act against four minors, including the 16-year-old boyfriend and three others aged 16, 16, and 13 years. The victim has been sent for medical examination to gather evidence.

Arrests and Custody

All four accused have been arrested and sent to an observation home in Madurai. The authorities are investigating the matter further to ensure justice for the victim.
