Keonjhar: The Keonjhar Town police on Monday arrested Alok Dhada, a jail warder serving at the Keonjhar Jail, on charges of involvement in ganja trade within the prison premises. Following his arrest, he was produced before a court which remanded him to judicial custody.
Complaint and Investigation
Jail superintendent Upendra Jena lodged a formal complaint at the Town police station, leading to the arrest. According to sources, during a surprise raid conducted on the night of May 22, 2026, the superintendent recovered 62 grams of ganja from the bag of Alok Dhada, the warder. Subsequently, a show-cause notice was issued to the warder. On Sunday, Jena submitted a written complaint at the town police station, confirmed Inspector-in-Charge of Town police station, Srikant Sahu.
Legal Proceedings
The arrested warder was presented before a local court which ordered judicial custody. The police are investigating the matter further to uncover any possible nexus or network involved in the illicit drug trade inside the jail.
This incident has raised serious concerns about security and discipline within the correctional facility. Authorities are expected to take stringent measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
