Lucknow: The Department of Gynaecological Oncology at King George's Medical University (KGMU) achieved a significant milestone by performing its first robotic surgery on a 25-year-old woman diagnosed with a 10x10 cm ovarian tumour. This procedure marks a step forward in advanced surgical care at the institute.

Procedure Details

The surgery was led by Prof Nisha Singh, head of the Department of Gynaecological Oncology. She was supported by Dr Tarini Sonwani, Dr Astha Chauhan, anaesthetist Dr Deepali, and the nursing team. The operation took place at the Shatabdi SSI Mantra OT.

Doctors highlighted that robotic surgery offers particular advantages for treating endometrial cancer, ovarian tumours in young women, endometriosis, and infertility-related conditions.
