A 17-year-old girl from Anmol Nagar, Nagpur, under the Wathoda police station limits, tragically ended her life after posting a WhatsApp status expressing gratitude to the Almighty. The deceased has been identified as Mahi Atram.
Mahi had recently cleared her Class 12 examinations. Her father, Nitish, works as a medical officer in Girad. According to police, Mahi preferred to stay alone and aloof. She had discontinued attending school and pursued her education from home. Her WhatsApp status revealed that she felt unwanted and unaccepted, a police official stated.
On Thursday, May 28, after dinner, Mahi went into her room and locked it from inside. She then hanged herself. When her father noticed her absence, he called out to her but received no response. He broke open the door and found her hanging from the ceiling. She was rushed to GMCH but was declared dead upon arrival.
Wathoda police have registered a case of accidental death. The investigation suggests that the girl might have taken the extreme step due to feelings of loneliness and depression. No suicide note was found at the scene.
