Lucknow: Doctors have issued a stark warning that uncontrolled high blood pressure significantly increases the risk of heart attack, brain stroke, and kidney disease. They emphasized the critical need for regular health check-ups and uninterrupted treatment to prevent long-term damage.
Silent Damage Over Time
Cardiologist Dr. R.K. Saran highlighted a dangerous misconception: many individuals assume their blood pressure is normal if they feel healthy. However, persistent high blood pressure can silently damage the body over time without noticeable symptoms. He made these remarks during an awareness program held at Medanta hospital on Tuesday.
Risks of Stopping Medication
Dr. Saran warned that some patients stop taking their medication once their blood pressure readings return to normal. This practice can be extremely dangerous, as hypertension typically requires long-term treatment and consistent monitoring to keep it under control.
Preventive Measures Advised
Another cardiologist at the hospital, Dr. S.K. Dwivedi, recommended several lifestyle modifications to manage blood pressure effectively. These include reducing salt intake, avoiding oily and fatty foods, engaging in regular physical exercise, and undergoing routine blood pressure check-ups, particularly for individuals over the age of 40.
Long-Term Consequences
The doctors explained that uncontrolled hypertension over an extended period can damage vital organs, including the heart, brain, kidneys, and even eyesight. Regular monitoring and adherence to treatment plans are essential to mitigate these risks and maintain overall health.
