Coimbatore Hospital Expands Digital Platform to Include Accident Case Data
Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) is taking a significant step forward in healthcare digitization by expanding its Medico-Legal Examination and Postmortem Reporting (MedLEaPR) platform. After nearly six months of successfully digitizing postmortem reports, the hospital is now focusing on emergency cases, particularly accident case details.
Successful Trial Phase Leads to Expansion
The digital platform, developed by the National Informatics Centre, has been operational for postmortem reports related to legal issues for the past half-year. A CMCH official confirmed that all legally required postmortem reports have been issued through this system during this period. "Now we are heading towards uploading accident report (AR) cases and wound certificates," the official stated.
All patient particulars entered in an AR copy will be uploaded to the digital system. However, the official noted that since accident reports involve substantial data, complete digitalization will require additional time to implement fully.
Collaboration with Police Authorities
CMCH authorities and Coimbatore city police conducted a meeting on Friday to discuss the expansion of the digital platform. During this meeting, police requested integration of patient treatment details and medical investigation reports from treating doctors.
"The suggestions have been taken into consideration, and proper execution will take another couple of months, for which the department is simultaneously working," the CMCH official explained.
Current Progress and Future Timeline
The trial phase for accident report details has been ongoing for approximately one month. The hospital is working systematically to ensure all necessary data points are included in the digital transition.
Key aspects of the expansion include:
- Digitization of accident report cases
- Uploading of wound certificates
- Integration of patient treatment details
- Inclusion of medical investigation reports from doctors
The MedLEaPR platform represents a major advancement in medical record management for Coimbatore Medical College Hospital. By digitizing both postmortem reports and now accident case details, the hospital aims to improve efficiency, accuracy, and accessibility of crucial medical-legal documentation.
This expansion comes as part of broader efforts to modernize healthcare administration and improve coordination between medical institutions and law enforcement agencies in handling emergency cases.
