Tanker Foundation, Madurai Corporation and GRH Forge Partnership for New Dialysis Centre

In a significant move to enhance healthcare accessibility, the Tamilnad Kidney Research (Tanker) Foundation has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Madurai Municipal Corporation and Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH). The agreement, signed on Tuesday, paves the way for establishing a new dialysis centre at the Ansari Nagar urban primary health centre (UPHC) in Madurai.

Infrastructure and Operational Details

Under this collaborative partnership, the Madurai corporation and GRH will provide the necessary infrastructure and essential medical equipment required for the dialysis unit. In turn, the Tanker Foundation will take charge of running and overseeing the dialysis services. This includes providing trained technicians to operate the dialysis units efficiently and ensure high-quality patient care.

Expected Timeline and Impact

The dialysis centre is projected to become operational within a span of six to eight weeks from the signing of the MoU. Once launched, it is anticipated to support hundreds of economically disadvantaged patients residing in and around Madurai by offering crucial dialysis treatment. This initiative aims to alleviate the burden on existing healthcare facilities and provide timely medical intervention to those in need.

Key Signatories and Support

The MoU was formally signed by Dr Sreegothai Chockkalingam, the chief medical officer and city APM of Madurai corporation, and Dr Georgi Abraham, the founder trustee of Tanker Foundation. The signing ceremony was conducted in the presence of Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, the state minister for information technology and digital services, highlighting governmental support for this healthcare endeavour.

Latha Kumaraswami, the managing trustee of Tanker Foundation, emphasized the centre's potential to transform healthcare delivery for underprivileged communities, ensuring they receive essential dialysis services without financial strain.
