IMPHAL: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking in Manipur's Churachandpur district, police have arrested three individuals and seized over 5 kg of heroin, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Arrests and Seizures
According to a police statement, the arrests were made in Bolkot under the Singngat police station area. The accused have been identified as Nengmuanlal and Ginlamthang Guite, residents of M Buangmun village, and Hangkhanlian, a resident of Gurgaon in Haryana. Authorities recovered 5.43 kg of heroin from their possession.
In a separate operation on April 20, police arrested a 28-year-old man from his residence in Saidan village of Churachandpur district. During the raid, they seized 11.7 kg of raw opium from him, an official stated.
Ongoing Efforts
These operations underscore the intensified efforts by Manipur police to combat drug trafficking in the region. The authorities have been conducting regular surveillance and raids to dismantle drug networks operating in the state.
The police have registered cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the arrested individuals, and further investigations are underway to trace the source and distribution channels of the contraband.
