NEET PG Counselling 2025 Round 2 Seat Matrix Released

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially commenced the second round of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025 counselling process. This crucial phase involves the release of a comprehensive seat matrix and the opening of the choice filling portal for aspirants across India.

NEET PG 2025 Round 2: Seat Availability and Key Details

The committee has published the detailed seat matrix for Round 2 on its official counselling website, mcc.nic.in. According to the data, a total of 32,080 seats are available for allocation in this round. This number is a combination of three distinct categories.

The breakdown is as follows: 2,620 are newly added seats, 11,837 are listed under virtual vacancy, and 17,623 are clear vacancies. Virtual vacancy seats are those currently held by candidates from Round 1 who might upgrade in subsequent rounds, thereby freeing up these positions.

Important Dates and Eligibility Criteria for Round 2

The MCC is following a strict revised timeline for Round 2 activities. The registration and fee payment window opened on 5 December 2025 and will remain open until 9 December 2025. The critical choice filling process is active from 6 to 9 December, with choice locking scheduled for the evening of 9 December, from 4 PM to 11:55 PM.

Seat allotment processing will occur on 10 and 11 December, with the results announced on 12 December 2025. Successful candidates must report to their allotted colleges between 13 and 21 December 2025.

The MCC has specified that several groups of candidates are eligible for Round 2. This includes those who were not allotted any seat in Round 1, candidates who wish to upgrade from their Round 1 allotment, and fresh applicants for All India Quota (AIQ) seats. Only candidates who qualified NEET PG 2025 are eligible. It is important to note that candidates who secure a seat in Round 2 will not be permitted to resign after the round concludes.

How to Fill Choices and Insights from Round 1

Aspiring candidates must complete their choice filling online through the MCC portal. The steps involve visiting mcc.nic.in, navigating to the 'PG Counselling' section, logging in with credentials, and accessing the 'Choice Filling' window between December 6 and 9. Selections should be made based on the published Round 2 seat matrix, reviewed carefully, and locked within the stipulated time on December 9.

Reflecting on preferences from the first round, MD General Medicine emerged as the most sought-after course among top rankers. It was closely followed by MD Radiodiagnosis and MD Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Prestigious institutions like PGIMER – Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Government Medical College in Kozhikode, Vardhman Mahavir Medical College, Bangalore Medical College, and Madras Medical College were among the top picks.

After the Round 2 results are declared, candidates must report with original documents, the allotment letter, identity proof, fee receipt, and category certificate if applicable. All stakeholders are advised to monitor the official MCC website regularly for the latest updates on NEET PG counselling 2025.
