Psychologists Urge Free Counselling for NEET Aspirants in Tamil Nadu
Free Counselling Urged for NEET Aspirants in TN

Chennai: In the aftermath of the National Testing Agency's cancellation of the NEET UG 2026 exam, psychologists and activists have called upon the Tamil Nadu government to offer free counselling sessions to affected aspirants from the state over the coming weeks. The Tamil Nadu Psychology Association has urged the government to leverage existing tele-counselling services, such as helpline numbers 104 and tele MANAS, to assist students in managing their stress levels.

Addressing Student Distress

K Balamurugan, president of the association, emphasized the severe mental duress that students are currently experiencing. "A lot of self-doubt and anger would be prevalent. It is the duty of the state to ensure that they are addressed properly and not misdirected," he stated. He further noted that many students are returning from breaks and vacations and must mentally transition back into preparation mode. "This is not as easy as it sounds. A few words of support and encouragement would help those in distress," he added.

School-Based Counselling Suggestions

Additionally, a section of activists has proposed holding counselling sessions at schools. S Arumainathan, president of the TN Students Parents' Welfare Association, suggested that the state could invite students to their respective schools on designated days for counselling. "Based on need, the state can invite students to their respective schools on a particular day and arrange counselling," he explained.
