In a significant move to curb drug abuse, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that drug testing will be mandatory for all students and employees across the state. The decision was made during a high-level meeting on drug abuse prevention, where CM Sukhu emphasized the need for strict measures to protect the youth and ensure a drug-free society.
Mandatory Testing for All
The new policy requires all students enrolled in educational institutions, as well as government and private employees, to undergo periodic drug tests. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action, including suspension or termination. The tests will be conducted by authorized laboratories, and results will be kept confidential to avoid stigmatization.
Rehabilitation and Support
CM Sukhu also announced the establishment of rehabilitation centers in every district to provide counseling and treatment for those found positive. The government will allocate funds for awareness campaigns and training programs for teachers and employers to identify signs of drug abuse.
Strict Penalties for Non-Compliance
Educational institutions and employers that fail to implement the testing protocols will face legal consequences. The government will also set up a monitoring committee to oversee the implementation and ensure transparency.
This initiative aims to create a deterrent effect and promote a healthy lifestyle among the youth. The CM urged all stakeholders to cooperate in making Himachal Pradesh a drug-free state.
