A 32-year-old man was found deceased on the second-floor waiting area of the district hospital in Sector 39, Noida, on Thursday night. Police have indicated that the man may have suffered a heart attack, although the exact cause of death will be determined only after an autopsy.
Incident Details
The deceased, identified as Neeraj Kumar, had visited the hospital earlier in the day for diagnostic tests, which are typically conducted on the second floor. According to police, his body lay on the floor for several hours before a staff member discovered it during late-night rounds around 11:30 pm.
Security Concerns Raised
The incident has sparked questions about the security and surveillance arrangements at the government hospital, which also houses the Chief Medical Officer's office. Vijay Kumar, a patient attendant at the hospital, expressed dismay: "How come no doctor or attendant or anyone inside the hospital premises could see the man in such a state? If emergency services are not available within a government hospital premises, then what can people expect?"
Police Investigation
Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the hospital to ascertain whether the man walked to the second floor unaccompanied. A senior police officer stated, "The deceased had come to the hospital for treatment. During inquiry with doctors and hospital staff, it emerged he may have died following a heart attack. No external injuries were found on the body. But it has been sent for post-mortem examination." The officer added that action would be taken based on the post-mortem report.
Hospital Operations
The district hospital's outpatient department caters to at least 2,800 patients daily, and nearly 100 diagnostic tests are performed each day. Hospital authorities and the Chief Medical Superintendent did not respond to requests for comment.
