The Uttar Pradesh government has ordered the immediate refund of security deposits collected from candidates during last year's NEET counselling for MBBS and BDS admissions. Additional Chief Secretary of Medical Education, Amit Kumar Ghosh, issued the directive after noting complaints about non-refund of dues, an official spokesperson said on Tuesday.
Massive Refund for 30,000 Candidates
The order covers a refund valued at Rs 380 crore as on date, providing relief to approximately 30,000 candidates. Ghosh termed the delay unacceptable and ordered the closure of accounts linked to the refund process. He also directed strict disciplinary proceedings against employees found responsible for the lapse.
Two Officials Suspended
As part of the crackdown, Dr Rahul, an attached faculty member in the Directorate General of Medical Education and Training office, and stenographer Mohammad Irfan Ansari were suspended with immediate effect pending further orders.
Reiterating the government's commitment to student welfare, Ghosh stated that any delay or carelessness in issues concerning students' interests would not be tolerated. The move aims to ensure timely resolution of financial dues and restore confidence among candidates.
