Apara Ekadashi 2026: Significance

Ekadashi is one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu religion, holding great religious and spiritual importance. This day is dedicated to worshipping Lord Vishnu, and all Vaishnav devotees observe a strict fast from sunrise, breaking it the next day on Dwadashi Tithi after Parana. This fast is believed to bring spiritual growth, self-discipline, inner peace, and awareness in life. Those who observe the fast with pure devotion are blessed by the Lord with positivity, abundance, and prosperity, and they attain a place in the abode of Lord Vishnu after death. People observe this fast to attain liberation from the cycle of birth and death. The word 'Apara' means limitless, and the Pandavas observed this fast to win the battle against the Kauravas. To purify their bodies, minds, and souls, devotees follow this fast and engage in various religious and spiritual practices throughout the day. It is said that by keeping this fast on Apara Ekadashi, people can even be saved from sins and attain salvation.
