Yami Gautam once opened up about a deeply personal chapter in her life, revealing how yoga played a crucial role in helping her recover from a long-standing neck injury. The actress, known for films such as 'Vicky Donor', 'Kaabil', 'Bala', and 'Uri: The Surgical Strike', shared that the nationwide lockdown gave her the opportunity to focus on healing in a way she never had before.
Yami Gautam's Struggle with Neck Injury
Posting a photograph of herself performing a yoga pose, Yami reflected on the physical challenges she had silently dealt with throughout her career and how the experience transformed her relationship with fitness and wellness. The actress explained that years of professional commitments had made managing her injury particularly difficult. Between demanding dance routines, workouts, extensive travel schedules, action sequences, and even uncomfortable footwear, her body was constantly under strain.
“This post is very personal... Having suffered a serious neck injury, I've always had to be extra cautious - esp owing to the fact the amount of physical exertion due to dance , workout, non stop travel, physical activity, action, painful footwear etc etc & this list is endless, resonates with being an actor [sic],” she wrote.
Yami also admitted that she had become accustomed to hiding her discomfort rather than addressing it openly. “Somehow it’s always been about never expressing the pain beneath the surface & rather conditioning your ownself to bear it & like its said,,,the show must go on,” Gautam added.
How Yoga Changed Yami Gautam's Perspective
While she had attempted yoga in the past, Yami revealed that her condition often left her in greater pain, making it difficult for her to continue consistently. However, the lockdown offered a rare pause from her hectic schedule and allowed her to approach the practice differently.
“This lockdown, I got to explore something which I couldn’t before! Everytime I would try practising Yoga, I would be left more in pain owing to my condition, hence my experience never encouraged me to continue.. but this time I self-tutored my way through & allowed my body to heal itself inside out and it has worked like never before!” she shared.
According to the actress, the journey became less about appearance and more about understanding what her body genuinely needed.
Beyond Fitness and Physical Appearance
Yami stressed that her lockdown experience was not driven by the desire to stay camera-ready or maintain a particular physique. Instead, it became a period of self-discovery and recovery.
“This lockdown was not about ‘looking fit’ or ‘ workout of the day’ ... it was the time where I listened & just went with the flow! I am no expert (which you shall clearly see in the images)! I took my first baby step towards this journey, which shall not stop,” she wrote.
Her candid reflections resonated with many followers, who appreciated the actress for speaking honestly about pain, recovery, and self-care.

Yami also acknowledged the support she received from yoga practitioners Sarvesh Shashi and Sneha Meghe, crediting them for being an important part of her wellness journey. Their guidance, combined with her determination to heal, helped her take the first steps towards a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
