Grand Festivities at the Iconic Mysore Palace
The majestic Mysore Palace, the city's crown jewel, served as the epicenter of the celebrations. The district administration, in collaboration with the Mysuru Palace Board, organized a magnificent sound and light show titled 'Illuminate Mysuru.' This spectacular display bathed the palace facade in dynamic, colorful lights synchronized to music, creating a mesmerizing visual treat for the massive crowd that had gathered.
Adding to the festive spirit, renowned playback singer Vijay Prakash performed a live concert. His powerful renditions of popular Kannada and Hindi numbers had the audience enthralled and singing along, building up the energy as the clock ticked down to midnight.
Spiritual Start at Chamundi Hills and Scenic KRS
As has been the tradition for many, the New Year began on a spiritual note at the Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hills. A large number of devotees thronged the temple from the early hours of January 1, 2024, to seek the blessings of the deity for the year ahead. The temple saw a continuous stream of visitors throughout the day.
Meanwhile, the picturesque Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) dam and its sprawling Brindavan Gardens also attracted huge crowds. Families and friends gathered in the garden's serene environment to enjoy the musical fountain shows and the cool breeze, making it a perfect picnic spot to welcome the new year.

Celebrations were not confined to these major spots alone. Hotels, restaurants, and clubs across Mysuru hosted special parties, dinners, and events. Key public areas and thoroughfares were adorned with festive lighting and decorations, enhancing the city's celebratory mood.
Authorities made extensive arrangements to manage the large gatherings. Police Commissioner Ramesh Banoth confirmed that over 1,500 police personnel were deployed across the city to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow. Barricades, CCTV surveillance, and traffic diversions were effectively implemented, particularly around the Palace and Chamundi Hills. These measures ensured that the celebrations remained peaceful and joyous for all.
