Guwahati: A lively celebration of music and culture that captured the essence of Bohag and Assam added cheer to the Tezpur University campus as it recently hosted the ‘Bohagi Utsab’. The programme was organised by the Pragati Women’s Association, a non-profit women’s group associated with the university.
Event Highlights
The event began with a heartfelt tribute to the legendary singer Zubeen Garg. Members of the Pragati Women’s Association, together with students and faculty, presented traditional songs, dances and festive performances that showcased the richness of Assamese culture. Noted artist Jina Rajkumari and her troupe added colour to the evening with performances that reflected the energy and charm of Assamese folk music and traditions.

Among those present were Prof Amarendra Kumar Das, pro vice chancellor; Prof Chandan Goswami, registrar in-charge; Biren Das, controller of examinations; as well as faculty members, staff, students and invited guests.
The event was a vibrant display of cultural heritage, bringing together the university community in a spirit of joy and togetherness. The Bohagi Utsab not only celebrated the advent of spring but also reinforced the importance of preserving and promoting Assamese traditions. The performances by the women’s association and the artist troupe were particularly appreciated, drawing applause from the audience.
