282 Recruits, Including 36 Women, Formally Inducted into Assam Rifles at Sukhovi Parade
In a significant ceremony held on Saturday, a total of 282 recruits, comprising 36 women, were formally inducted into the Assam Rifles. The attestation parade took place at the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School located in Sukhovi, within the Chumoukedima district of Nagaland.
Completion of Rigorous 44-Week Training
The parade was organized to mark the successful completion of the recruits' intensive 44-week training program. During the event, the recruits marched with precision, showcasing the skills they had acquired throughout their rigorous preparation.
The comprehensive training regimen encompassed a wide range of essential military disciplines. Key components included battle craft, weapon handling, jungle lane shooting, and specialized training in counter-insurgency operations. This multifaceted approach ensured that the recruits were well-prepared for the diverse challenges they will face in their roles.
Leadership and Inspirational Address
The parade was led by Captain Anjali Kirola, who guided the recruits through the ceremonial proceedings. Addressing the newly inducted personnel, Major General JS Bainsla, the Additional Director General of Assam Rifles, delivered an inspirational speech.
He highlighted the rich legacy and esteemed history of the Assam Rifles, emphasizing its multifaceted role in safeguarding the nation's security. General Bainsla also underscored the growing and significant contribution of rifle women within the force.
Growing Role of Women in Assam Rifles
Since their induction into frontline duties beginning in 2015, women soldiers have demonstrated exemplary performance across various challenging environments. Their contributions have been notable not only in the northeastern regions of India but also in critical areas such as Jammu & Kashmir.
Furthermore, women from the Assam Rifles have participated in United Nations missions and have been part of prestigious events like the Republic Day parades in 2019 and 2023. General Bainsla emphasized that the presence of women soldiers in frontline roles significantly strengthens overall security measures.
He stated that this inclusion furthers the vision of a women-empowered India, promoting gender equality and enhancing the operational capabilities of the armed forces. The general extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the recruits and their proud parents for the successful completion of the demanding training program.
Recognition of Outstanding Performers
During the ceremony, special recognition was given to recruits who exhibited outstanding performance throughout their training. The awards were distributed as follows:
- The title of overall best recruit, which includes excellence in physical training and firing, was awarded to GD Appu Chakma.
- The overall second best recruit honor went to GD (Mahila) T Maloti Devi.
- The best in drill award was secured by GD Bikash Mandal.
