Bengaluru-Hyderabad Rail Connectivity Set for Major Speed Boost
Rail travel between Bengaluru and Hyderabad is poised to become significantly faster, with a key infrastructure upgrade now operational. The South Western Railway (SWR) has successfully commissioned a crucial doubled 30-kilometer stretch between Makajipalli and Dharmavaram in southern Andhra Pradesh, marking a pivotal advancement in regional rail efficiency.
New Track Authorized for 110 Kmph Operation
In a landmark development, the commissioner of railway safety has authorized this newly commissioned section for operation at a maximum speed of 110 kilometers per hour. This authorization follows a successful trial run conducted at an impressive 121 kmph, during which the oscillation monitoring system reported no abnormal peaks, confirming the track's stability and readiness for high-speed travel.
The commissioning of this stretch completes the entire doubling project between Penukonda and Dharmavaram, all sanctioned for the enhanced speed of 110 kmph. This ambitious project involved substantial construction efforts, including 66 minor bridges, 15 road underbridges, 1 foot overbridge, and the development of a station yard comprising 5 lines, showcasing a comprehensive upgrade to rail infrastructure.
Further Speed Upgrades on the Horizon
Looking ahead, an even more significant speed enhancement is in the pipeline. The stretch between Yelahanka in north Bengaluru and Dharmavaram in southern Andhra Pradesh is slated for a speed upgrade to 130 kmph, with completion targeted for March. This 161-kilometer corridor is expected to revolutionize travel times and operational efficiency for several high-occupancy trains.
Key beneficiaries of these upgrades include the Yeshwantpur-Kacheguda Vande Bharat Express, which will experience reduced journey times and improved service reliability. Passengers traveling between Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have long awaited faster connectivity, and these developments promise to deliver substantial relief and convenience, enhancing the overall rail travel experience in the region.
With these strategic improvements, the Bengaluru-Hyderabad rail route is set to become a model of modern, efficient transportation, supporting economic growth and regional integration through enhanced mobility.
