Hyderabad Flights Cancelled Due to Iran-Israel Tensions

Hyderabad Air Travel Severely Disrupted by Middle East Tensions

Air travel operations to and from Hyderabad faced significant disruptions on Saturday, with at least 21 arriving and 23 departing flights cancelled. This widespread cancellation occurred in response to escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, which have raised safety concerns over flight paths through the Gulf region.

International Services Hit Hard at RGIA

Officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) confirmed that numerous international services, especially those traversing Gulf airspace, were either cancelled or rescheduled. Airlines are actively reassessing their routes due to heightened security risks, leading to operational changes.

The most affected routes include flights to key West Asian hubs such as Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Kuwait, Sharjah, Medina, and Jeddah. While some carriers chose to cancel services outright, others have implemented delays, leaving passengers in limbo.

Passenger Frustration and Airport Advisory

At the airport, passengers were seen crowding counters, urgently seeking information on rescheduling options and refunds. The situation has triggered a surge in enquiries from travelers with onward international connections through Gulf transit points.

On social media platform X, passengers expressed their concerns. Nitin Agarwal tagged Etihad Airways, asking, "I have a flight to Amsterdam via Dubai on March 4; is this flight suspended? What is the current situation?" Similarly, P Satya posted, "Hi @emiratessupport, I have a flight on Emirates from Hyderabad to New York via Dubai on March 3. Unable to contact your call centre or live chat. How can I reach you to explore my options?"

In response, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport issued an advisory urging passengers to verify their flight status directly with their airlines before heading to the airport. The airport statement highlighted, "In light of the evolving situation in the Gulf and associated airspace restrictions, certain international flights may be subject to disruptions, including delays, rescheduling, or changes in operating times."

Broader Impact on Aviation Sector

The cancellations underscore the broader impact of geopolitical conflicts on global aviation. As tensions persist, airlines are prioritizing passenger safety by avoiding potentially risky airspace, leading to widespread travel inconveniences. This incident serves as a reminder of how international disputes can swiftly affect regional transportation networks and passenger plans.

Passengers are advised to stay updated through official airline channels and prepare for possible further disruptions as the situation develops.
