India Initiates Evacuation Plans for Nationals in Iran
India has started preparing to evacuate its citizens from Iran. This move comes as security concerns grow in the region. The United States has not ruled out possible military action against Tehran. This follows Iran's crackdown on nationwide protests.
Government Issues Travel Advisory
On Wednesday, India advised all its citizens currently living in Iran to leave the country. They should use available means of transport. The government also warned against traveling to Iran at this time.
Official sources confirmed the Ministry of External Affairs is making arrangements. These arrangements will facilitate the return of Indian nationals who wish to come back home. The government is exploring multiple options for this evacuation.
Evacuation Plans Include Civilian and Military Aircraft
The Indian government is considering using both civilian and military transport aircraft. This would happen if the situation requires such measures. Estimates show more than 10,000 Indians currently reside in Iran. This number includes many students.
The Indian embassy in Tehran issued a detailed advisory on Wednesday. It urged all Indian nationals to leave Iran immediately. This advisory specifically mentioned:
- Students
- Pilgrims
- Businesspersons
- Tourists
The mission asked people to use available transport modes. It also advised Indian citizens and Persons of Indian Origin to exercise caution. They should avoid areas witnessing protests or demonstrations. Regular contact with the embassy remains essential.
US President Comments on Possible Military Intervention
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has made significant statements. He said Washington has not ruled out military intervention in Iran. Trump spoke to CBS News on Wednesday about the situation.
"If they hang them, you're going to see some things...We will take very strong action if they do such a thing," the US president stated clearly.
In a message to protesters earlier, Trump said "help is on the way." The US president has already announced a 25 percent tariff. This tariff applies to countries having trade with Tehran.
Background of the Iran Protests
The protests began late last month in Tehran. They started after the Iranian currency rial plunged to record lows. Since then, the protests have spread to all 31 provinces of Iran.
What began as agitation against economic problems has evolved. It now includes demands for political change. Reports indicate the nationwide protests have resulted in significant casualties.
Over 2,500 people have died in Iran so far according to available information. The situation continues to develop rapidly. Indian authorities remain vigilant about their citizens' safety in the region.
