India to Operate 50 Flights from West Asia on March 9 Amid Regional Tensions
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced that India's aviation authorities will operate around 50 flights on March 9, 2026, to maintain connectivity between India and West Asia. This decision comes as authorities closely monitor the current airspace situation in the region, with Indian airlines playing a crucial role in ensuring travel links remain open despite ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Recent Flight Operations and Passenger Numbers
According to official data, Indian carriers operated 51 inbound flights from West Asia on March 7, transporting nearly 8,175 passengers to India. These flights were primarily managed by major Indian airlines, including:
- Air India
- Air India Express
- IndiGo
- SpiceJet
- Akasa Air
On March 8, Indian airlines scheduled approximately 49 inbound flights from key airports across the region, such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, and Jeddah. For March 9, the number has been slightly increased to about 50 services, with adjustments based on ground conditions and airspace safety assessments.
Impact of Regional Instability on Aviation
The move follows continuous instability in parts of West Asia, which has disrupted aviation routes globally. Airlines have frequently been forced to reschedule, reroute, or cancel services. Amid these challenges, passenger safety remains the top priority, with ongoing efforts to sustain flight connectivity between India and major West Asian destinations.
The ministry has confirmed that all operations are being coordinated with airlines and airport authorities. Additionally, authorities are closely monitoring airfare trends to prevent sudden price surges, aiming to avoid impacting passengers attempting to travel during the regional crisis.
Advisories for Travellers
Authorities have advised travellers to stay in contact with their respective airlines. Before heading to the airport, passengers should obtain the latest updates regarding flight schedules, cancellations, or route changes. Further advisories and operational adjustments may be issued to ensure passenger safety and the smooth operation of flights.
Despite the geopolitical tensions, the continued operation of flights underscores the efforts by Indian airlines and the government to support passenger movement and maintain essential travel links.
