Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara personally visited the residence of Chandan Kumar in Thyamagondlu village, Nelamangala taluk, following the tragic shooting death of the software professional in Toronto, Canada. The minister extended his heartfelt condolences and support to the grieving family during this difficult time.
Details of the Tragic Incident
According to Toronto Police reports, Chandan Kumar was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Woodbine Shopping Centre near Rexdale Boulevard and Highway 27. He was discovered with gunshot wounds and transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The talented project manager was working for a software company in Toronto at the time of his death.
Chandan Kumar was the only son of retired teacher couple Nandan Kumar, making the loss particularly devastating for the family. Minister Parameshwara expressed profound distress at witnessing the parents' grief over losing their son who was meant to be their support in later years.
Investigation and Repatriation Efforts
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Minister Parameshwara confirmed that an investigation into the killing is currently underway in Canada. "We have not yet received information about the reason behind the killing," he stated, while adding that discussions are ongoing with Indian authorities to repatriate the body.
The minister revealed that the body may be brought back to India within the next three to four days, with the Indian High Commissioner to Canada actively involved in the repatriation process. Parameshwara emphasized the Karnataka government's commitment to ensuring justice in this case.
Call for Thorough Investigation
Earlier, through a post on social media platform X, Minister Parameshwara urged the Canadian government to conduct a comprehensive investigation into Chandan Kumar's murder. He called for justice to be served through proper channels involving the Central Ministry of External Affairs.
The minister also sought to reassure the Kannadiga community living in Canada, stating: "Kannadigas living in Canada need not fear because of this incident. The Karnataka government is committed to the safety of all Kannadigas."
Family Background and Minister's Response
Chandan Kumar's parents, both retired teachers, have lost their only son in this tragic incident. Minister Parameshwara described the scene at their home, noting how the parents' wails of grief filled his heart with immense distress.
"I pray that the divine grants the family the strength to bear this sorrow," the minister added during his visit. He emphasized that the state government stands with the family during this period of unimaginable loss.
The murder has raised concerns about the safety of Indian professionals abroad, particularly in countries like Canada where several incidents involving Indian nationals have been reported recently.
