Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday participated in the Youm-e-Ashura procession in Srinagar, as thousands of Shia mourners gathered across Jammu and Kashmir to mark the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain and his companions in the Battle of Karbala.
L-G Sinha Offers Chadar at Zadibal Procession
The Lieutenant Governor joined the traditional Muharram procession in the Zadibal area, where he offered a 'chadar' to the symbolic 'Zuljanah'. He distributed refreshments among mourners and interacted with participants while reviewing the arrangements for the procession.
Paying tributes to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions, Sinha said, “Their supreme sacrifice for peace, love and compassion remains an eternal guide to building a society rooted in equality and harmony. Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) gave the timeless message of selfless service and compassion for the underprivileged. Society must draw inspiration from his noble life and virtues, walking the righteous path of truth, justice and humanity.”
Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg, and other senior police and civil administration officers were present on the occasion.
CM Omar Abdullah Joins Mourners in Black Attire
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also joined the Ashura gathering at Zadibal, where he distributed refreshments at a stall set up by the National Conference (NC). He was accompanied by his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq. Dressed in a black kurta-pyjama and wearing a 'keffiyeh' scarf, Abdullah interacted with mourners and volunteers and exchanged greetings with participants during the procession.
Thousands Participate Across Jammu and Kashmir
Meanwhile, thousands of Shia mourners participated in the Ashura procession across Jammu and Kashmir, observing the solemn occasion with traditional rituals and processions.
