The event commemorated the supreme sacrifice of twenty Indian Army personnel who laid down their lives during the violent confrontation with Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh on June 15, 2020.

BRC Commandant Brigadier Rakesh Kumar Bora led the tributes, emphasizing that the martyrs, under the leadership of Colonel B Santosh Babu, belonged to the distinguished 16 Bihar Battalion. In his address, Brigadier Bora highlighted the exceptional bravery and unwavering devotion to duty displayed by these soldiers during the fierce confrontation in the Galwan Valley, where they made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.

Legacy of the "Kohinoor Diamond" Battalion
Brigadier Bora provided historical context about the battalion, which was originally raised on February 11, 1985, under the command of Major H D Salonke. Colonel S K Puri subsequently assumed command on August 10, 1985. Over nearly four decades of service, the battalion has earned the distinguished sobriquet "Kohinoor Diamond" for its exemplary courage and outstanding performance in both conflict zones and peacetime operations.
