PM Modi Makes Historic Landing at Dibrugarh Emergency Runway, Rafale and Sukhoi Jets Mark India's Strategic Push

In a powerful demonstration of military readiness, Prime Minister Narendra Modi touched down at the newly developed Emergency Landing Facility in Dibrugarh, Assam. This highway-based runway, constructed in close coordination with the Indian Air Force, is designed to enable fighter jets and heavy transport aircraft to operate seamlessly during emergencies.

Aerial Display Showcases Advanced Capabilities

During a 40-minute aerial exhibition, advanced aircraft including Rafale, Sukhoi, and Tejas jets executed sharp take-offs, precise landings, and impressive fly-pasts. This display not only highlighted the technical prowess of India's air force but also underscored the operational readiness of the new facility.

Strategic Importance Near the Line of Actual Control

The Dibrugarh ELF is strategically positioned under 300 kilometres from the Line of Actual Control, significantly enhancing India's defense posture in a sensitive region. This location adds considerable weight to its role in national security, particularly in safeguarding the Siliguri Corridor.

The Siliguri Corridor, a narrow land link connecting the Northeast to mainland India, is a critical geographical feature. The new facility strengthens India's defense preparedness in this area, ensuring rapid response capabilities in times of conflict or tension.

Dual-Purpose Design for Military and Civilian Emergencies

Beyond its military applications, the Emergency Landing Facility is engineered to boost disaster response capacity in Assam, a region prone to severe flooding. This dual-purpose design means it can serve both national defense needs and civilian emergencies, providing a versatile infrastructure asset.

The message from Dibrugarh was unequivocal: India's highways are no longer mere transportation routes; they have evolved into strategic runways that reinforce national security. This development marks a significant step in integrating civilian infrastructure with defense requirements, showcasing India's proactive approach to safeguarding its borders and enhancing regional stability.
