Indian Railways Implements Comprehensive Measures to Manage Festive Rush at Tatanagar Station
In anticipation of the significant festive season travel surge, Indian Railways has rolled out a series of strategic initiatives at Tatanagar railway station in Jamshedpur to regulate passenger flow, particularly on trains bound for Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. These proactive steps are designed to enhance passenger comfort and ensure orderly operations during this high-demand period.
Enhanced Capacity with Additional Coaches
Effective from Tuesday, the railways will attach two supplementary coaches to select trains heading to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. This capacity expansion is a direct response to the increased passenger volume, aiming to accommodate more travelers and alleviate congestion on these popular routes. The move is expected to provide much-needed relief during the peak festive travel window.
New Temporary Holding Area for Passenger Comfort
A key feature of the new arrangements is the construction of a temporary structure outside Tatanagar station. This facility can comfortably hold up to 1,000 passengers at any given time, offering a designated waiting area equipped with essential amenities. Passengers will find an adequate number of chairs, ceiling fans for ventilation, reliable drinking water supplies, and accessible toilet facilities within this holding zone.
When a train arrives at the station, officials will systematically guide the relevant passengers from this holding area to their respective trains in an organized queue. This process is intended to streamline boarding and prevent chaotic crowding on the platforms themselves.
Strict Security and Surveillance Protocols
To maintain security and order, railway authorities have implemented rigorous surveillance measures. Only individuals with valid tickets will be permitted to enter the station premises, with checks in place to enforce this rule. A combined force of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel will be deployed across all five platforms. These officers will be present both in uniform and in plainclothes to assist passengers with smooth boarding and deboarding processes while also vigilantly monitoring for potential pickpockets and other security concerns.
Operational Efficiency and Passenger Assistance
Aditya Kumar Choudhary, the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager at Chakradharpur, emphasized the dual objectives of these measures. "The purpose is to ensure there is no unnecessary crowding on platforms. At the same time, order is maintained when trains arrive," he stated. To further enhance operational clarity, instructions have been issued to the railway traffic control unit to avoid last-minute changes regarding train arrivals, thereby preventing confusion among passengers.
Additionally, the number of enquiry counters at the station will be increased as needed to address passenger queries promptly. Choudhary also highlighted that a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been developed for all stakeholders to facilitate hassle-free passenger movement during this period.
Round-the-Clock Monitoring and Affected Trains
A dedicated control room has been activated at Tatanagar station to monitor all operational activities continuously, both at the platforms and at the entry gates. This 24/7 oversight ensures real-time coordination and swift response to any issues that may arise.
The need for these measures is underscored by the heavy passenger rush observed on several key trains since Friday. Notable services experiencing significant demand include the Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, the Durg-Rajendranagar South Bihar Express, the Tatanagar-Danapur Express, the Tatanagar-Chapra Express, and the Anand Vihar Terminal-Puri Neelachal Express. These routes are critical connectors during the festive season, linking eastern India with northern destinations.
By implementing these coordinated steps—ranging from infrastructure enhancements like extra coaches and the holding area to robust security and operational protocols—Indian Railways aims to provide a safer, more organized, and comfortable travel experience for the thousands of passengers passing through Tatanagar station during this festive rush.
