The Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) has taken strict disciplinary action against one of its employees for a clear breach of election regulations. Sanitation inspector Naresh Parmar has been suspended from his duties for violating the Model Code of Conduct, which is currently in force due to the ongoing civic elections.
What Led to the Suspension?
The suspension order was issued after it was discovered that Parmar had publicly displayed his photograph alongside a political leader. This image was featured on a hoarding that had connections to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Furthermore, the official used the same photograph as his personal WhatsApp status, amplifying the political message on a private platform.
Official Inquiry and Swift Action
UMC Commissioner Manisha Awhale ordered a preliminary inquiry into the matter. The inquiry concluded that the inspector's actions amounted to a clear case of political endorsement by a government servant, which is strictly prohibited during the election period. Based on this finding, Commissioner Awhale ordered the suspension on Friday.
UMC spokesperson Ajay Sable confirmed the development, stating that Naresh Parmar has been suspended with immediate effect for his blatant breach of election norms. The suspension serves as a strong reminder to all civic employees to maintain political neutrality.
Consequences and the Message Sent
This decisive action underscores the administration's commitment to enforcing the Model Code of Conduct without bias. The suspension of a government employee for such an overt political act highlights the seriousness with which election rules are being treated in Ulhasnagar. It sets a precedent that similar violations by any public servant will not be tolerated, ensuring a fair electoral process for the civic polls.
