Ahmedabad Mayor Leads Pre-Monsoon Meeting to Prevent Waterlogging and Electrocution
Ahmedabad Pre-Monsoon Meeting: Waterlogging, Electrocution Prevention

Ahmedabad: Mayor Hitesh Barot and standing committee members convened a pre-monsoon preparedness meeting at the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Friday. Key directives included identifying chronic waterlogging spots and repairing faulty street light poles to prevent electrocution, a critical issue after two people died from live wires in water puddles during the 2025 monsoon.

Key Directives Issued

In a letter to the municipal commissioner, Barot ordered the cleaning of catchpits and stormwater drains for quicker runoff, hard barricading of incomplete public works, and deploying pumps at underpasses. The fire brigade was placed on high alert for emergency rescues, and officials were told to demolish dangerous structures immediately.

Health and Monitoring Measures

“To curb waterborne diseases, the AMC will enforce regular medical camps, distribute medicines, prevent waterlogging in low-lying areas, carry out fogging, and pipe leak repairs,” said an official, adding that 42 automatic rain gauges and a centralised monsoon control room spanning seven zones will monitor city-wide water levels and the Sabarmati.

All underpasses will have pumps to reduce chances of waterlogging even as lakes and ponds have been cleaned before the season for water storage, they added.
